![]() Claiming Crown Nominees Named July 6, 2007 -- Henderson, KY -- The 2007 Old National Bank Claiming Crown received a record number of nominations when the second round of nominations closed on June 15, and a few notable entries are being considered for the richest day in the claiming ranks. Shaggy Mane, Sunshine Millions Distaff Sprint winner and Private Scandal, winner of the Maryland Million Turf, top the list of nominations. Me My Mine, the 2006 winner of the Claiming Crown Jewel, is also among the nominees. General Charley and Lookinforthesecret, both of which have competed in stakes this season at Canterbury Park, added their names to the list. Golden Hare, claimed for $3,500, ranks as a standout among the frequent winners, having won 10 of his last 11 starts. Hosted for the first year at Ellis Park, the Old National Bank Claiming Crown received a total of 65 late nominations to bring the total to 357 nominations for the “blue-collar Breeders’ Cup.” It is the most nominations the Claiming Crown has ever received. Kentucky horsemen are showing their support for the first Kentucky hosting of the Claiming Crown as many nominations have come from the Bluegrass. "I have not actually counted them, but I would estimate that approximately half the nominees hail from the barns of Kentucky based owners and trainers," said Nat Wess, Claiming Crown Coordinator. The final opportunity for horses to become eligible for the 2007 Old National Bank Claiming Crown is Friday, July 20. These supplementary nominations can be made for five percent of the purse. The Old National Bank Claiming Crown, set for August 4, consists of seven races for $600,000 in purses, for horses who have started at least once since August 1, 2006 for claiming prices ranging from $7,500 or less to $35,000.
