July 6, 2005: Jon White, Becky Witzman Co-Host Horseracing TV's (TM) Exclusive Claiming Crown Coverage on Saturday, July 16 Arcadia, CA -- HorseRacing TV's (TM) tandem of Jon White and Becky Witzman
will anchor the network's exclusive coverage of Canterbury Park's annual
Claiming Crown races on Saturday, July 16. For Minnesota native Witzman, the return to Canterbury Park will evoke plenty of fond memories. Her love of horses began with trips to Canterbury when she was growing up. During her school years, she worked for two trainers (Tony Regsdorf and David Van Winkle) at Canterbury, and also worked for Southern California-based Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella, where she ascended to assistant trainer. "The Claiming Crown is a unique format that has secured a niche in Thoroughbred racing," said Amy J. Zimmerman, executive producer for HRTV. "We’re delighted to have an outstanding partnership with Canterbury, and enjoy being involved in a tremendous day of racing in Minnesota." Known as Thoroughbred racing’s event for "blue collar" runners, Claiming Crown 2005 will feature total purse money of $650,000 for the seven-race event. Horses who have started at least once since July 15, 2004 for claiming prices ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 are eligible for the Claiming Crown races.
