January 1, 2005: Claiming Crown Lineup Set; $100,000 Tiara Added For 2005

Shakopee, MN -- The Tiara, a $100,000 turf race for fillies and mares, has been added to the schedule for the seventh renewal of the Claming Crown, to be held Saturday, July 16 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota.

Known as thoroughbred racing’s event for “blue collar” runners, Claiming Crown 2005 will feature total purse money of $650,000 for the seven-race event. Horses who have started at least once since July 15, 2004 for claiming prices ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 are eligible for the Claiming Crown races.

“We are excited about Claiming Crown returning to Canterbury Park in 2005 and are happy to be adding a race that numerous owners and trainers have requested,” said John Roark, President of the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA), the organization that along with the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) is a co-founder of Claiming Crown.

The deadline for regular and open nominations to Claiming Crown 2005 is Friday, April 15.
